Evidence-Based Practice
The benefits of OT in hospice and palliative care have been well documented, but our services continue to be underutilized.
OT has a powerful role to play in serving clients with serious illness and, based on available research, does indeed deserve a seat at the end-of-life care table.
An evidence-based practice can empower you as an advocate and agent of change. It can also demonstrate, unequivocally, that OT helps clients live a life worth living in the face of serious illness, functional changes, survivorship, and death. Use these resources to advocate for greater inclusion of OT in hospice and palliative care to your teams, organizations, and, well, anyone who will listen! Moreover, these resources can be used in any practice setting to justify OT services and occupation-based interventions for those with serious illness.
